It is a privilege to have been appointed by the CPPA to the .5 position of Principal Mentoring and Support.

The role of principal has become increasingly complex and challenging yet the supports have yet to catch up in many provinces. CPPA is ahead of the game in ensuring that this support is available the Principals of Canterbury and I feel fortunate to be able to bring my experience to the table.

My first principalship was in 1985, pre-Tomorrows Schools, so I have successfully worked through vast changes in education in my 34 years as a principal, 2 years with the Education Review Office and more recently as a Statutory Manager. During this time I have had led curriculum review and implementation, developed strategic direction, coordinated the creation of and led a Kāhui Ako and have experience of several significant school rebuilds.

I am available to speak or meet with you as required if there is an urgent need. In the meantime I will be making contact by email to come and visit schools in my “patch” but I am here for anyone who needs an immediate response.

No issue is too small, you may just need someone to listen and confirm or you might need support for that unexpected one that comes from nowhere! In any case please feel free to contact me at anytime … and I mean anytime.

PRINCIPAL MENTORING AND SUPPORT

It is a pleasure and an honour to have been appointed to the role of 0.5 CPPA Principal Mentor, supporting colleagues in a rewarding and valuable career.

As the role of principal continues to be complex, I believe it is important you have the level of support you need to assist you in your role.

After recently completing twenty three years as a successful principal, two of those leading a Kāhui Ako, it is an opportunity for me to provide support, advice, a confidential listening ear to walk with you in any way that supports you in your role.

I am available to take phone calls, respond to emails, or meet face to face with you at a time that is convenient to you.

I may even rock up in my motorhome, put the jug on and invite you into my cafe…a perfect opportunity for some quiet and confidential conversation…you will actually think you are on holiday!

I look forward to meeting you, visiting your kura and supporting you in the best way possible.

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

I am excited to have been appointed by the CPPA to the .5 position of Principal Mentoring and Support. I believe this type of support is critical for all school leaders, especially given the challenges and issues we are currently facing here in Canterbury.

I hope to bring a wide range of skills and experiences to the role and I look forward to working with you, as the highest quality education for our children is, and must always be, our greatest priority. After 14 years as a school principal, over 9 years as a leadership and management adviser, and having completed a Master of Educational Leadership, I have developed a real interest in all facets of leadership, particularly educational leadership.

I enjoy working with leaders motivating and encouraging them as they re-energise their leadership skills and strengthen their personal capabilities and competencies.
